Fari Barzegar, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. Fari Barzegar is a registered professional engineer and a licensed general contractor with over 20 years of experience as an engineering consultant, educator and researcher. He specializes in structural analysis/design, diagnostic and failure investigations, and construction defects/accidents. He has expertise in performance evaluation of constructed facilities including the effects of natural (e.g. wind, earthquake) and man-made (e.g. vibrations, blast) hazards, damage assessment, and repair and retrofit design. He has analyzed buildings, bridges, cooling towers, and offshore platforms, and has investigated floor vibrations, seismic damage to apartment buildings, retaining walls, failure of concrete grain silos and water storage tanks and underground water conduits, blast in underground coal mines and in chemical plants, and distress in concrete pavements.

Dr. Barzegar was on the faculty of the Structural Engineering Department at the University of New South Wales (Sydney-Australia) and the Civil Engineering Department at Louisiana State University. He has also worked at Zolman Construction & Development, Exponent Failure Analysis Associates and Rutherford & Chekene Consulting Engineers in California. He received his B.S. (High Honors, 1981), M.S. (1983) and Ph.D. (1987) in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a charter member of Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and a member of Forensic Expert Witness Association, American Concrete Institute, Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, Structural Engineers Association of Northern California, The Institution of Engineers (Australia), and Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society.

Dr. Barzegar has published extensively in various professional journals and has received a prestigious award for a published paper. He served as an Associate Editor of the ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering, and is currently a reviewer for a number of technical journals.
