He has broad experience in psychiatric injury assessment, including causation and psychiatric disability evaluation. He has extensive experience in the assessment of psychiatric effects of physical injuries. He has over 35 years' experience in psychiatric treatment of adults, including extensive hospital experience. Dr. Casella is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (1972) and has been an Examiner for that Board. He holds his medical degree from Harvard Medical School (1965) and completed psychiatric residency training at Harvard. He is an Associate Clinical Professor Emeritus at Stanford University School of Medicine. He has functioned as consultant to the California Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and as examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is a Qualified Medical Examiner and Agreed Medical Examiner for the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board. He is a past Director of Stanford Hospital Psychiatric In-Patient Unit. He has been Consultant and Forensic Evaluator for San Mateo and Santa Clara County Superior Courts for 30 years. He is the author of a national-award-winning paper in psychiatry. He has served as President of the Mid-Peninsula Psychiatric Society and as Deputy Chief of the Stanford University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry. He has authored over 3500 psychiatric forensic evaluations for both defense and plaintiff attorneys, and has extensive trial experience. Courtesy telephone consultation.
