James R. Ungar, M.D. is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners. A resident of Windsor, California, he is currently the Director and Chairman of the Emergency Department at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, a Level II Trauma Center in Santa Rosa, California. He has practiced the specialty of Emergency Medicine since 1972 and has extensive clinical, administrative and academic experience. He has contributed extensively to the medical literature and is currently associate editor for Schwartz's textbook, PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE, 4th edition. A former Deputy Sheriff with the Orange County Sheriff's Department in Southern California, he has a keen interest for forensic interfaces with the clinical practice of emergency medicine. His areas of legal expertise includes all phases of emergency and trauma medicine with special emphasis on cardiovascular, respiratory, toxicologic and trauma cases. He has studied EMTALA and COBRA Law extensively and is eager to provide hospitals, physicians and attorneys valuable perspective on this confusing element of Federal Law. Dr. Ungar is married and father of three children. He enjoys skiing, hiking, white water river rafting and skydiving. He is a commercial pilot with instrument ratings in single and multiengine aircraft. |
