I am a Legal Gerontology Consultant and Expert Witness for both Plaintiff and Defense. As a consultant, I act as a liaison between the legal, long-term care, and health care communities. My role is to evaluate, analyze, and render informed opinions on the various issues that fall into my area of expertise in any given case. I advise attorneys and serve as an Expert Witness in cases involving Skilled Nursing Facilities, Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly (Assisted Living), Acute Hospitals, Psychiatric & Geriatric Psych Units, Adult Residential Facilities Developmentally Disabled (ARFDD), Intermediate Care Facilities Developmentally Disabled – Habitative (ICFDDH), Personal Injury, & Dementia (Alzheimer’s / Parkinson’s & Related Disorders). I am able to:

• Screen and investigate cases for their merit
• Compile chronologies and summaries of medical records, risk assessment
• Define Standards of Care for administrators, nurses, and all other facility personnel including Standards of Care pertaining to causation and damage issues and deviation or adherence to the Standards of Care
• Review facility policies and procedures for appropriate content and completeness
• Identify inconsistencies, negligence, and fraudulent claims.
• Determine Licensee/ Management’s liability
• Review operations for compliance with OBRA (federal regulations), Title 22 (state regulations), and other laws and regulations governing Skilled Nursing Facilities, Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, Acute Hospitals, etc.
• Identify & analyze specific issues or documentation that must be reviewed
• Assess future care needs

Additionally, I am able to identify contributory factors to injuries, elder abuse, neglect, and any other issues arising in long-term care & health care facilities and the administration thereof. I can assist the attorney in the interview of other witnesses and experts (i.e. provide specific & relevant questions to ask defense or plaintiff witnesses / experts before trial or deposition and provide consultation during deposition and trial) and serve as a liaison between the attorney, facility, witnesses, & clients.
