Celebrating its successful 25th anniversary year with a total of over 250 clients, this professional practice firm was formed in 1974, based on the need for Prof. Warburton's uniquely comprehensive services and his wide industry experience beginning as a junior in high school, when he began part-time and summer work with an architectural and enginering firm in his hometown, Kansas City, Missouri. Upon high school graduation, he entered Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he majored in architecture and took most of his electives in engineering and in urban planning -- while continuing part-time practice work with a variety of architecture-engineering firms in Kansas City and Boston, Massachusetts -- receiving upon graduation in 1958 the Bachelor in Architecture degree and the Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Traveling Fellowship for European study. Afterwards, he entered Yale University, receiving a Master of Architecture degree in 1959 -- working one summer in New York with Charles Luckman Associates, Planners/Architects/Engineers -- and a Master of City Planning degree in 1960, together with the William E. Parsons Medal. He joined SOM's large New York office in 1960, later transferring to its main Chicago office where he was promoted to Chief of Planning, and was elected a Participating Associate in this large excellent Architecture/Engineering/Planning partnership. By 1967 Ralph Warburton had accepted a prominent career position as Special Assistant to the Secretary (for Urban Design),of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C. In 1972 he joined the University of Miami as a tenured full Professor, where he has taught, conducted about $1M of sponsored research, and served about ten years directing academic programs in Architecture, Architectural Engineering and Urban and Regional Planning. (Concurently from 1972-1974 he was Senior Partner/Vice President of Ferendino/Grafton/Spillis/Candela, Architects-Planners-Engineers, of Coral Gables, FL.) An actively licensed Architect, Professional Engineer, Interior Designer and Community Planner in FL and 8 other states and D.C., at present, Prof. Warburton is an active member of the American Concrete Institute, American Institute of Architects (Fellow), American Institute of Certified Planners (Charter), American Society of Civil Engineers (Fellow), American Society if Interior Designers (Honorary), American Society of Landscape Architects (Honorary), National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (Member), National Fire Protection Association (Life Safety Code Committee), Florida Engineering Society (Fellow) of the National Society of Professional Engineers, .... He is a member of the Honorary Societies of Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership), Sigma Xi (Science), and Tau Beta Pi (Engineering). |
